Abstract:

This sixteen-page English-language guide, created by the First Amendment Center, educates teachers about about the constitutional and educational principles for understanding the role of religion in public education. It clarifies that the approach should be academic and educational, informing student awareness and study of religions, and provides advice for teacher education and good classroom resources. The personal beliefs of teachers and the religious expression of students are examined, along with such issues as accommodating students with special religious needs, extracurricular religious clubs, and the distribution of religious literature in schools.
