Abstract:

This four-page English-language document educates service providers working with refugees in the Somali Bantu Community Orientation program about stress that can affect their adjustment and adaptation in the U.S. Stressors are identified as pre-flight, during flight and processing, and after arrival in U.S. The document discusses particular stressors experienced by children, adjustment phases, and a number of possible interventions for particular stressors and psychological and physical reactions.
