Iraqi Health Outreach Project: Diabetes
This two-page brochure in English and Arabic educates Iraqi Americans about diabetes, a disease that causes high blood sugar because the body does not produce enough insulin or resists the insulin that is produced. The document explains the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. It dispels myths and provides facts, including signs, symptoms, complications, and treatment. Though Type 1 diabetes cannot be prevented, type 2 diabetes can be prevented and sometimes controlled through eating healthy foods, exercising, and weight loss, especially if a person has a family history.
