Abstract:

This two-page report informs service providers working with refugees from Haiti. It provides a historical timeline (1496-2015), brief descriptions of methods of torture used in that country, and a synopsis of current conditions and pertinent issues facing Haitian refugees. It discusses the country's current situation, including political corruption and violence, the restavek system, violence against women, the January 2010 earthquake, and the return of Duvalier.
