Abstract:

This one-page handout educates people about the tuberculosis (TB) blood test, also called an Interferon Gamma Release Assay or IGRA. It outlines kinds of TB blood tests and TB skin test (Mantoux), who should get each one, and how to find them. The document explains when TB germs enter the body, they cause latent TB infection. Without treatment, latent TB infection can become active TB disease. It offers advice for what people should do if their TB blood test result is positive, and the benefits and limitations of the BCG vaccine.
