Abstract:

This web page, based on a World Health Organization online question and answer session from 20 January 2016 and updated on 10 March 2017, educates people about Zika virus disease. It discusses where the virus occurs and how it is transmitted. It identifies symptoms of Zika virus disease, health complications, and addresses concerns for pregnant women and Zika. Disease diagnosis, treatment, protection from Zika transmitted by mosquitoes, and prevention of sexual transmission of Zika virus are discussed. The document identifies key issues in understanding Zika virus, including travel, Zika and neurological complications, vaccine research and development, and WHO work to address the virus.
