Abstract:

This 28-page report informs service providers about the health conditions of Congolese refugees. It identifies their priority health conditions as parasitic infections, malaria, mental health, and sexual and gender-based violence. It provides background about the history of conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), language and literacy, religious beliefs, family and kinship, gender roles, and their cultural approach to health care. It discusses refugee population movements, healthcare access and conditions in refugee camps, medical screening, and resettlement of refugees in the U.S. The disease burden for specific diseases among the Congolese refugee community is described. Maps, charts, and other infographics are provided.
