Abstract:

This one-page handout educates people who are close to someone with Hepatitis B about the importance of testing and vaccination. It explains that Hepatitis B is a contagious liver disease resulting from infection with the Hepatitis B virus (HBV). It discusses how the disease is spread, and clarifies that most persons with it who were born in China and other Asian countries were infected as infants or young children. It explains that many people with Hepatitis B do not have symptoms and do not know they are infected. The document discusses the importance of testing all family members for Hepatitis B, and recommends vaccination against the disease, explaining the Hepatitis B vaccine series.
