Abstract:

This four-page information guide educates service providers working with refugees who may have been victims of sexual violence used as a weapon, war strategy, or method of torture during conflict. The document defines and discusses types of sexual violence and their physical and psychological impact on persons, family, and community. It outlines treatment options and considerations, suggesting treatment themes and additional interventions.

This information guide compliments the March 2011 GCJFCD Refugee Services National Partnership for Community Training webinar Sexual Violence as a Tool of Torture and a Weapon During Conflict by Dr. Adeyinka Akinsulure-Smith.
