Diaphragm User Guide

Resource Properties

Abstract:

This two-page illustrated fact sheet uses a question and answer format to educate people about how to use a diaphragm.  It explains how the diaphragm works, spermicide, when to use a diaphragm and when it should not be used, removal, storage, and how long it will last. Illustrations accompany step-by-step instructions on how to insert the diaphragm. Advice on what to do if you stop using the diaphragm and have unprotected sex, use of emergency contraception (EC), risks, and when to see your health care provider is provided. The document clarifies that the diaphragm does not protect from Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) or HIV, and advises condom use.
