Abstract:

This two-page report informs service providers working with refugees from Sudan. It provides a historical timeline (1899-2015), brief descriptions of methods of torture used in that country, and a synopsis of current conditions and pertinent issues facing Sudanese refugees. It discusses the country's current situation, including violent conflict and genocide in Darfur and elsewhere, restrictions on press freedom, freedom of assembly and association, the failure of law reform to protect citizens, prevalence of trafficking, torture and murder, the government under Omar Bashir, and the actions of the Sudanese government's Rapid Support Forces.
