Resource Properties

Abstract:

This two-page report informs service providers working with refugees from El Salvador. It provides a historical timeline (1520-2014), brief descriptions of methods of torture used in that country, and a synopsis of current conditions and pertinent issues facing Salvadoran refugees. It discusses the country's current situation, including gangs and gang violence, the flight of minors from Central America and subsequent placement in U.S. custody as unaccompanied alien children (UACs), violence against girls and women, denial of reproductive rights and a total ban on abortion, and impunity for human rights atrocities committed during the civil war.
