Mental Health Screening Tools and Referral Networks
This six-page information guide educates service providers who work with refugees about implementing a mental health screening process, and creating a culturally competent referral network to address refugee mental health. It provides a list of key questions for providers to ask prior to implementing screening and referral processes, and programmatic considerations in developing and adapting screening tools. An organizational tool based on the Genogram is included, accompanied by exercises in partnership identification, evaluation, and implementation to assist providers in analyzing stakeholders and action items. The guide outlines basic protocols surrounding the refugee mental health screening, discusses goals for the referral process and tips for cultivating a referral network, and identifies common challenges and potential solutions to implementation.
This information guide compliments the March 2016 GCJFCD Refugee Services National Partnership for Community Training webinar Mental Health Screening Tools and Referral Networks by Annie G. Bonz, Amber E. Gray, and Sasha Verbillis-Kolp.
