Life Skills for Burundian Refugees, Volume 3

Resource Properties

Abstract:

This 100-page guide gives service providers a program of life skills materials to support the adjustment and integration of Burundian refugees to their new homes and communities. These materials can be used in groups with a facilitator to enhance the learning experience for participants and by encouraging further discussion and participatory activities while addressing their questions and concerns. The guide provides objectives, issues for further review, discussion topics, activities, and evaluation questions concerning five topics: becoming a U.S. citizen, buying and owning a car, bullying and discrimination, prenatal and maternal health, and mental health issues. Each topic is presented as an illustrated handout of culturally and linguistically appropriate material in Kirundi and English. These five handouts educate and help orient Burundian refugees in their transition to life in the United States.
