This four-page illustrated handout educates people about middle ear infection, also called otitis media, which occurs when the tubes inside the ears become clogged with fluid. It explains that germs from a cold or flu can lead to middle ear infection. It lists signs of middle ear infection, and discusses seeing a doctor for care and treatment with antibiotic medicine if the infection is caused by germs. It identifies those symptoms for which a doctor should be called immediately.
