This two-page handout educates people about hepatitis B, which is an inflammation of the liver caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It provides facts about hepatitis B infection, and includes statistics (from February 2007) about infection in the United States and throughout the world. It explains how hepatitis B is transmitted through blood and infected bodily fluids, lists ways in which it can and cannot be spread, and identifies behaviors that can put people at greater risk of infection.
