Abstract:

This two-page handout educates people about hepatitis B, which is an inflammation of the liver caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It provides facts about hepatitis B infection, and includes statistics (from February 2007) about infection in the United States and throughout the world. It explains how hepatitis B is transmitted through blood and infected bodily fluids, lists ways in which it can and cannot be spread, and identifies behaviors that can put people at greater risk of infection. The document discusses hepatitis B prevention, and provides links for more information.
