Preparing for Your Surgery
This six-page handout helps people prepare for surgery. It provides general guidelines that patients can use to get ready for their procedure. It reviews some of the tests they may receive before the surgery, and recommends that patients tell their doctor about medicines they are taking, and any illness or infection they have. It discusses specific things the patient should and should not do the day before surgery, and includes check boxes where a healthcare provider can indicate if the patient needs to take a laxative and/or drink only clear liquids to clean out the bowel, and when the patient needs to shower with CHG soap. The document also contains tips for what the patient should do on the day of their surgery, including what they should and should not bring with them to the hospital.
