This six-page handout educates people about ways to prevent falls while at home. It identifies places in the home where falls may occur, and provides a list of things people can do to be safe and avoid falling. It discusses safety tips regarding floors, lighting, stairs, furniture, and in the bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen. The document includes tips for staying safe from falls outside the home, and offers guidance for general safety such as asking for help before getting up, use of a cane or walker, and talking with the doctor about medicines and their effect on balance and coordination.
