Early Childhood Caries

Resource Properties

Abstract:

This two-page handout uses text and photographs to educate parents and other caregivers about early childhood caries (ECC), also known as baby bottle tooth decay (BBTD), which is a preventable infectious disease caused by certain types of bacteria that live in the mouth. It explains how parents and caregivers can prevent ECC, discussing ways to avoid passing bacteria to children. The document outlines proper feeding techniques and cleaning the child's mouth to avoid ECC, and provides tips for optimal oral health for the child.
