Grinding of Teeth

Resource Properties

Abstract:

This one-page handout educates people about teeth grinding, also known as bruxism. It explains that bruxism usually occurs during sleep, and many people may not know they suffer from the disorder. It discusses symptoms and causes of bruxism, its telltale signs of wear on the teeth, and recommends that people see their dentist if they suspect a grinding problem. The document outlines treatment, including use of a custom-made plastic mouth guard at night, to alleviate jaw pain, improve sleep, and protect teeth from abnormal wear.
