Gum Disease: A Guide to Periodontal Disease

Resource Properties

Abstract:

This two-page handout educates people about gum disease, also known as periodontal disease. It explains that the major cause of periodontal disease is the interaction between the bacteria found in dental plaque and the body's response to it, and discusses other contributing factors. It describes gingivitis, periodontitis, and advanced stages of the disease. It identifies symptoms of the disease, and recommends that people see a dentist if any of the indicators appear. The document outlines the disease's prevention, and treatment options based on its progression.
