New Moms: Information for Moms and Moms-to-be

Resource Properties

Abstract:

This one-page handout uses a question and answer format to educate women about dental health issues related to pregnancy, infants, toddlers, and children. It provides basic information for women who are pregnant about oral health, the importance of dental visits, and x-rays. For new mothers, the document discusses dental care for infants, when to begin brushing their teeth and use of fluoridated toothpaste, dental visits, and prevention of early childhood caries, also known as baby bottle tooth decay. It includes basic recommendations for keeping a child's teeth healthy, helping a baby through teething, and working with a dentist to make decisions on use of a fluoride supplement or sealant.
