Abstract:

This two-page handout educates people about the impact of diet and nutrition on general health and oral health. It explains that diet and nutrition can influence development and disease, including dental diseases such as cavities or periodontal (gum) disease. It discusses factors affecting development of tooth decay, including eating patterns and food choices. The document identifies food variety, proportionality, moderation, and a person's physical activity as important factors in food choices. It includes the MyPlate food icon to help people visualize building a healthy plate, and a table of USDA daily nutritional allowances.
