Abstract:

This one-page handout educates people who are close to someone with Hepatitis B about the importance of testing and vaccination. It explains that Hepatitis B is a contagious liver disease resulting from infection with the Hepatitis B virus. It discusses how the disease is spread, and clarifies how it is not spread. It explains that many people with Hepatitis B do not have symptoms and do not know they are infected, and discusses the effects the disease can have on the liver. The document recommends testing all family members for Hepatitis B, and discusses the importance of vaccination against the disease.

The PDF of each translated handout is accompanied by an English-language version. The information is the same in each document, except the Amharic-language version is customized for persons from Ethiopia, and the Somali-language version addresses people from Somalia.
