Pneumonia in Children
This three-page handout educates parents and other caregivers about children and pneumonia, which is an infection in one or both of the lungs caused by bacteria, virus, or chemical. It describes signs and symptoms of pneumonia and discusses its care, including diagnosis with a physical exam, chest x-ray, and sputum culture, and treatment with antibiotics. The document recommends ways to prevent pneumonia in children, and identifies symptoms, based on age, for which the child's doctor should be called immediately.
